I’ve thought of you often since you went to the MTC. We entered the MTC 3 years ago on November 9. We didn’t get the snowstorm you had. This is wonderful site and a great way to keep us informed. Thanks, Micki, for your farewell talk and the additions. Our oldest daughter married a man who had served in Truk Island Micronesia. I kidded him that he spoke “Truckese…Breaker breaker.” His experiences were like the ones you described. Once he and his companion built a hut on the beach, for their quarters and to hold Church meetings. The Branch President and his family eventually took it over and my son in law and companion went back to sleeping on the beach. You will certainly have a marvelous story to tell when you return. We wish you well and God’s blessings.
Love,
Jean
It has been raining really hard for about 5 hours. The people of the islands love it. They stand out in it and it washes their selves and their clothes. For those with thatched roof it is a disaster though because everything gets wet and the kids “pikininis” get dirty. Your son in law in the Truk islands would be just like it here. It was hard at first because it was just unbearably hot, but we have become used to it. We have learned alot about surviving and what you need to take with you. No food, no water, no restrooms when you go to the outer islands .
We do love our mission though and are learning and growing. We have to reach together for our spirituality as church is all in Bislama, which we don’t understand well yet. They do sing the hymns in English and I do derive alot from them. They don’t even need a piano the volume and the harmony is amazing. We walk and swim every morning to stay in shape. I have heard we may have adventures in the islands were we have to walk long distances and I don’t want to be the weak link. More breast cancer. Cynthia, Jackie, and you when you came home. I hope that is not something I have to look forward to.
A new couple arrived on Sunday from Oregon. Their son married Jill the daughter of Kim and Jamie Anderson. Small world.
We hear you are having a cold winter. My MOM is not too happy about that. I think she is getting along okay though. I sure appreciate the sweet sisters in the ward that continue to include her. Thanks for responding to our blog. You are both special to us and have taught us much from being in your home. Luvem yu! Lookem yu! (Bislama) Elder and Sister Hinton
